Here are some real-life examples of people we have helped in Warwickshire.

A man talking with a doctor

A Warwickshire resident emailed us; they were concerned about not getting bowel screening. We advised them to call the screening programme.

“I’ve just rang the screening programme as recommended and it would seem that your interest has prompted some activity, a letter is on its way to me, and I should receive my test kit in a couple of weeks. Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.

A man talking to a nurse in a hospital corridor

Healthwatch Warwickshire were telephoned by a member of the public whose family member was in a local hospital. The family member was unable to contact their parent in hospital and PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) were unresponsive.

With consent, we called PALS and Patient Experience at the hospital on their behalf. This resulted in the person being able to understand what was happening with their parent’s health and treatment.

A member of the public emailed Healthwatch Warwickshire about the death of a family member, at a local hospital. Following our advice about how to write a witness statement and letter, the coroner decided to open an inquiry into the cause of death.

A young adult met one of our team at a local community group where we were telling them about what we do. The members of the group were told they can contact Healthwatch if they want to speak to somebody who is independent. The young person later called us to tell us about some concerns they had about their care provider.

We called Safeguarding and a social worker went to visit them, made sure they were safe, and talked through their concerns. A referral has now been made to the Community Learning Disabilities Team who will provide support and advice.
