Being a carer is the loneliest, miserable and most heart-breaking experience of my life. I have lost all joy in life; I can’t keep friends because I have no time and I’m exhausted. I’m trapped.

This is what a local carer told us about their experience of looking after someone they love.

82% of Warwickshire Carers told us they don’t spend enough time on their own health and wellbeing.

Key findings of the report:

  • 239 Warwickshire residents shared their views with us about their caring roles.
  • 52% of respondents told us they had to stop working or reduce their hours due to their caring role
  • 82 people told us that ‘nothing’ had changed as a result of telling someone that they had caring responsibilities

If you help support someone either emotionally or physically, there is help available to you.

We are still interested to know how carers and people who provide support to a friend, relative or neighbour, look after themselves. We want to understand what support they need to manage their own health and wellbeing. Click on the link at the bottom of the page to talk to us.

The findings of this survey will help us to design and commission the right services enabling health and care professionals and community partners to continue to support carers through the provision of targeted advice and local services.
