The NHS in Coventry and Warwickshire want to know what you think on their plans for the future of local stroke services.
They will be holding events, which you can find out more about on their website. You can take part in their survey by clicking here
Or read below about what they have to say on the consultation:
Over the past few years, the Coventry and Warwickshire CCGs have undertaken an extensive review of stroke services in our area including rehabilitation services and stroke prevention in order to determine where we can make the biggest difference to the health outcomes of stroke patients.
Current stroke services in Coventry and Warwickshire are providing a good standard of care but they are not meeting the latest national and regional guidance and evidence. There are also different services available in different areas and we want to address this through our proposed improvements.
We know we need to change services and invest in specialist rehabilitation, ambulance transfers and medicines to ensure real improvements in health outcomes for local people. We feel that is important to make this investment in order to reduce the chances of people having a stroke and the disability resulting from a stroke.
Local clinicians, patients, carers, community groups and our dedicated Stroke Patient and Public Advisory Group have helped us to develop a proposed new clinical model for stroke services:
Acute stroke services
All acute stroke services would be located at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW), with stroke rehabilitation provided closer to people’s homes. All patients would be diagnosed and treated at UHCW until they are ready for rehabilitation closer to home, either in a bedded rehabilitation unit or in their own home with clinical support. The acute stroke units at Warwick Hospital and the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton would no longer operate as all patients would be treated in one specialist centre.
Rehabilitation stroke services
There would be an Early Supported Discharge service and community stroke rehabilitation in all areas of Coventry and Warwickshire. Patients who need rehabilitation in hospital would receive the care and treatment they need at Leamington Spa Hospital or the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton
We are running a consultation on the proposed new model from 9th October 2019 until 21st January 2020 and we want to hear your views. For more information and to complete the electronic survey, please go to: www.strokecovwarks.nhs.uk
At the end of the consultation, all of the feedback given will be reviewed and taken into account before a decision is made.
